The Journey Begins
This work didn’t start in a courtroom or a newsroom — it started with a deep belief in justice, equity, and truth. From early advocacy to national news commentary and legal leadership, every step has been guided by a commitment to speak up, stand strong, and serve those most in need.
The Trailblazing Laywer
Michelle’s legal career began at the powerhouse firm Patton Boggs, where she quickly distinguished herself as a partner working at the intersection of law, government affairs, public policy, and high-stakes advocacy.
Her experience includes serving on the Bush–Cheney Presidential Inaugural Committee and chairing the District of Columbia’s Redevelopment Land Agency, where she helped negotiate the public-private financing of the MCI Arena—one of the city’s most transformative civic projects.
Through these roles, Michelle deepened her commitment to protecting civil rights, empowering marginalized communities, and helping individuals navigate legal, political, and economic challenges with clarity and courage.
Her approach today remains the same: strategic, people-centered, and driven by a belief that everyone deserves strong, informed representation.
Empowering Women
and Uplifting Communities
At the heart of Michelle’s work is a lifelong commitment to justice. As President & CEO of the Bernard Center for Women, Politics & Public Policy, she leads efforts focused on democracy, economic liberty, global human rights, and the advancement of women and marginalized communities.
She is a powerful advocate for women’s rights globally and a dedicated defender of ethnic and religious minority communities in democratic societies.
Through writing, speaking, and on-the-ground advocacy, Michelle continues to push for a more equitable future—one informed by courage, compassion, and the belief that every voice deserves to be heard.
Where We
Are Now
Today, the mission continues with even greater urgency. From the courtroom to the public square, Michelle D. Bernard is using her legal expertise and public voice to advocate for equity, dignity, and justice. Whether fighting for individual rights or pushing for broader change, her work remains grounded in service — and ready to meet the moment.
This means offering direct legal support to individuals and families, using media platforms to challenge injustice, and collaborating with communities to build stronger, more equitable systems. Whether you're navigating a legal issue, planning an event, or simply seeking guidance — this work is here for you.
